Biography

Carlota Perez specializes on the socio-economic impact of technical change and the historical context of growth and development. Author of the influential Technological Revolutions and Financial Capital: the Dynamics of Bubbles and Golden Ages (Elgar 2002), she has acted as consultant for international organisations such as UNIDO, CEPAL, the World Bank, and the OECD; for several Latin American governments; and for numerous global corporations, including IBM, Cisco, Telefonica, Mondragon and Ericsson. Her career began in civil service: she was founding Director of Technological Development at the Ministry of Industry in Venezuela in the 1990s, creating the first venture capital fund in the country. Carlota is currently Visiting Professor at the London School of Economics, Professor of Technology and Development at the Nurkse Institute, Estonia; Honorary Professor at SPRU, University of Sussex, and at the Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose at UCL, UK.
She is also Academic in Residence at Anthemis UK.
